The ritual is rooted in various texts such as the Rigveda and the Skanda Purana, emphasizing the importance of invoking divine grace before embarking on any journey.

Ritual Steps

Sankalp (Sankalp)

Who Performs: The head of the family or designated person.
Purpose: To express intentions and invoke blessings for the pujan.

How to Perform:
1. Sit facing east, holding water in your right hand.
2. State your name, family details, and purpose of the pujan aloud.
3. Offer water to the deities and pray for their blessings.

Mantra: ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः (Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah)

Dhyaan (Dhyana)

Who Performs: The head of the family.
Purpose: To focus and meditate on the deity for blessings.

How to Perform:
1. Close your eyes and visualize the deity.
2. Meditate for a few minutes, focusing on the image of Ganesha.

Mantra: ॐ वक्रतुंड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ: निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा (Om Vakratunda Mahakaya Surya Koti Samaprabha, Nirvighnam Kurume Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada)

Avahan (Avahana)

Who Performs: The designated person or Pandit.
Purpose: To invite the deity into the vehicle.

How to Perform:
1. Sprinkle water around the vehicle.
2. Place flowers and incense in front of the vehicle.
3. Invite the deity to reside in the vehicle.

Mantra: ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः, आवाहयामि (Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah, Avahayami)

Naivedya (Naivedya)

Who Performs: The head of the family or Pandit.
Purpose: To offer food as a symbol of gratitude and devotion.

How to Perform:
1. Prepare sweet offerings (like modaks or fruits).
2. Present the offerings in front of the vehicle.
3. Bow down and express gratitude.

Mantra: ॐ सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः (Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah)

Aachaman (Achaman)

Who Performs: The head of the family.
Purpose: To purify oneself before proceeding with the pujan.

How to Perform:
1. Take a spoonful of water in your right hand.
2. Sip the water three times while reciting the mantra.

Mantra: ॐ कश्यपाय नमः (Om Kashyapaya Namah)

Aarti (Aarti)

Purpose: To honor the deity and seek blessings through light.

How to Perform:
1. Light the diya (lamp) and hold it in front of the vehicle.
2. Move the diya in a circular motion, singing the aarti song.
3. Show the light to all participants.

Visarjan (Visarjana)

Purpose: To conclude the pujan and send off the deity.

Who Performs: The head of the family.
Purpose: To distribute blessed food to all participants.

How to Perform:
1. Collect the Naivedya offerings.
2. Distribute to all family members and guests.
3. Consume it with gratitude.

Mantra: ॐ तत्सत् (Om Tat Sat)

Dakshina (Dakshina)

Who Performs: The head of the family.
Purpose: To offer a token of respect to the Pandit or officiant.

How to Perform:
1. Prepare cash or gifts as dakshina.
2. Present it to the Pandit after the pujan.
3. Bow down in gratitude.

Mantra: ॐ श्री गुरु चरणारविन्दयो नमः (Om Shri Guru Charanaravindayo Namah)

Clean Up (Shuddha Karan)

Who Performs: The family members.
Purpose: To maintain cleanliness and sanctity after the pujan.

How to Perform:
1. Clean the pujan area and vehicle.
2. Dispose of any waste properly.
3. Reflect on the ritual and its significance.
